WATCH: Court dismisses interdict by unions in SAA retrenchments

The Labour Court will rule today on an application to stop retrenchments at SAA. Unions Numsa and the SA Cabin Crew Association brought the urgent application.

JOHANNESBURG - The Labour Court has dismissed the interdict to stop South African Airways retrenchments.

Unions Numsa and the SA Cabin Crew Association filed the application for the urgent application.

It came after business rescue practitioners decided to cut several routes to cut costs.

It says this is the beginning of an accelerated retrenchment process.

SAA says while lay-offs are inevitable, the company has not flouted any labour laws.

The airline says it will ensure that all obligations to staff are met.
