CAPE TOWN - Violent clashes between police and protestors took place in Kayamandi in Stellenbosch on Wednesday.

Police used rubber bullets and stun grenades to disperse crowds who wanted to march to the town to demand the return of the land to its rightful owners.

Police were engaged in running battles for hours with protesters.

A group of people calling themselves Jozi2Stellenbosch gathered in Kayamandi demanding the land be returned to them.

The group said people from across South Africa should see what they are doing.

eNCA tried interviewing some of the protest leaders, but they accused eNCA of being part of what they called White Monopoly Capital.

Soon after, we had to flee the area as the eNCA team, and other journalists were pelted with rocks.
