JOHANNESBURG - A group of Khoisan people want recognition as the country's first nation.

They've been camping outside the Union Buildings in Pretoria for over a month waiting to meet President Cyril Ramaphosa.

They want their languages to be officially recognised and the Land Claims Act scrapped.

The group declared their independence on Tuesday after failing to meet the president.

Khoisan Royal Council spokesperson, Annette Vorster, said division among their ranks decreases their chances of being taken seriously by the government.

She said some of the Khoisan leadership is simply doing this for self-recognition.
