JOHANNESBURG - A psychologist is claiming one of the so-called Krugersdorp Killers, Marcel Steyn, participated in the murders out of fear.
That's emerged during pre-sentencing procedures of the remaining three members of the group at the High Court in Johannesburg.
In June, 21-year-old Marcel, along with Cecilia Steyn, and Zak Valentine were found guilty of 32 counts between them, including murder and robbery.
Marcel's mother, Marinda Steyn, is already serving 11 life-terms in prison.
The group called itself Chosen by God and killed 11 people between 2012 and 2016.
The psychologist says Marcel was influenced by her mother and once she realised she was wrong, showed remorse and came clean.
"Her involvement in the murders was at the young age of 14 years," said psychologist Rosalind Macnab.
"The combination of these factors, unfortunately, formed the basis of her reality.
"Marcel was never afforded the opportunity to live the life of a free child and thereafter resume her life a healthy normal teenager."
