DURBAN – The KwaZulu-Natal Education Department says it is intensifying the war against sex pests who are preying on pupils.

The department has axed seven teachers and an administrator, for sexual violations against pupils.

KZN Education MEC Kwazi Mshengu says the expulsions are part of efforts to cleanse the department.

“As the department, we signed letters of expulsion for seven educators last week and these cases came about as a result from parents including learners who complained of sexual harassment to the department,” Mshengu said.

Mshengu has expressed concern about the length of time the cases will take.

“What is worrying is the issue that these cases will take too long that the alleged perpetrators will be allowed back to our schools without any consequences because of the collapse of cases when the victims decide to leave the school or graduate from the schooling system,” he said.

Mshengu says he has about 12 appeals that have been brought to his attention.
