KZN floods | Damage estimated at R25bn

DURBAN - The cost of destruction in KwaZulu-Natal is estimated to be over R25-billion.

That's according to premier Sihle Zikalala.

At the same time, areas like Tongaat remain without water.

But the government says work is being done to restore what was lost in these areas following devastating floods in the province.

"A total of 27,069 houses were affected, with 8,584 houses totally destroyed," Zikalala said.

"These floods are the worst in history and have unleashed the biggest humanitarian crisis.

"Rail and bridges, housing water, sanitation etc affected."
