DURBAN – The KwaZulu Natal Education Department has directed all pupils not writing year-end examinations on Thursday to be sent home.

The directive is in the wake of poor weather conditions in certain areas in the province.

The department, however, said those who are writing exams must continue to do so and should be released as soon as they have concluded writing their exams.

Where possible, parents have also been advised to collect their children to ensure their safe return home.

Severe rains and thunderstorms continue to wreak havoc in KwaZulu-Natal.

The province is braced for more heavy rains on Thursday.

The provincial government is calling on residents to get to safe areas.
