Ladysmith and Msinga residents evacuated after floods

LADYSMITH - Dozens of Ladysmith and Msinga residents in KwaZulu-Natal have been evacuated following flooding in the province.

The rains led to local rivers bursting their banks over the weekend.

KZN Cogta MEC Sipho Hlomuka says at least 70 residents have been moved from flooded areas to an indoor sports centre.

Disaster management continues to evacuate residents to place of safety.

Hlomuka's urging communities living in low-lying areas to seek shelter immediately.

So far, there has been no report of loss of life or injury.

The MEC says over R3,3-billion in damages has been incurred since torrential rains began battering the province a few weeks ago.

At least 25 people have died as a result.
