JOHANNESBURG - Land expropriation hearings will resume at the end of this month.
Hearings will proceed to the Northern Cape and Limpopo, starting on 21 October. They will then shift to the Western Cape.
The work of the ad hoc committee processing the legislation was supposed to wrap up at the end of May.
The committee is still taking legal advice on whether written submissions will be allowed from those who can't attend meetings, due to being at a high risk of contracting COVID-19.
Dr Mathole Motshekga, the chair of the ad-hoc committee on Amending Section 25 said, "with regard to the Western Cape, we should add the Karoo and Overberg because that can raise political issues which we don't want to deal with."
