Life Esidimeni: Families, govt reach compensation agreement

JOHANNESBURG - The families of Life Esidimeni victims and Gauteng government have reach an agreement on compensation.

Mechanisms to speed up the verification of claims will be set up in January 2019.

In March – retired Deputy Chief Justice Dikgang Moseneke ordered government to pay the families of all Life Esidimeni patients from R1.2-million each.

At least 144 psychiatric patients died – after being moved from ill-equipped NGOs in 2016.
