JOHANNESBURG - Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur have clinched their Champions League knockout stage qualification in the most dramatic of circumstances on Tuesday night.

A late goal by substitute Lucas Moura sent Spurs through to the round of 16 after earning a 1-1 draw against Barcelona at the Nou Camp.

Moura cancelled out a superb early solo goal by Ousmane Dembele.

Barcelona rested Lionel Messi for the first hour, having already locked up first place before the match.

At Anfield, Mohamed Salah's solitary goal saw Liverpool beat Napoli 1-0 to book their spot in the tournament's next round.

The Reds needed to win with a clean sheet or by two clear goals to make the last 16.
