Police Minister Bheki Cele presented the annual crime statistics to Parliament, from April 2019 to March this year. This period falls just outside the country's national lockdown period. Most noteworthy is the rise in sexual offenses crimes, including rape and sexual assault.

JOHANNESBURG - Police Minister Bheki Cele is briefing the media on the latest crime statistics.
He is joined by his deputy, Cassel Mathale.
Earlier, Cele released the stats in Parliament.
The statistics reflect crimes committed from April 2019 to March, this year.
The murder rate has increased by 1.4% year-on-year. 21,325 people have been killed between 1 April 2019 and 31 March 2020 - an increase of 303.
KwaZulu-Natal is the highest murder rate with 464 cases followed by Gauteng with 60.
