JOHANNESBURG - Health Minister Zweli Mkhize will brief the media on the country's preparedness for the deadly coronavirus.

The death toll continues to climb, with over 130 deaths in China.

Chinese health authorities have announced that nearly 6,000 people have been infected.

The flu-like virus broke out in the central Chinese city of Wuhan at the end of last year.

It spreads in droplets from coughs and sneezes and has an incubation period of up to 14 days.

WHO’s standard recommendations for the general public to reduce exposure to and transmission of a range of illnesses include hand and respiratory hygiene, and safe food practices.
