Local government elections to be held on 1 November 2021

Cooperative Governance Minister, Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma is expected to announce the local government elections date today. On Friday, the Constitutional Court dismissed the IEC's application to have the polls postponed because of Covid-19 concerns.

JOHANNESBURG - Cogta Minister Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma announced on Wednesday that local government elections will be held on 1 November 2021.

This will be a Monday and follows the Constitutional Court ruling that elections must go ahead no later than 1 November.

On Friday, the Constitutional Court dismissed the IEC's application to have the polls postponed because of COVID-19 concerns.

The deadline for candidate nominations has also been extended.

The voter registration weekend will go ahead on 18 and 19 September.
