JOHANNESBURG - Nelson Mandela Bay councillor and former ANC youth league leader, Andile Lungisa, is a free man, at least for now.

He was granted bail of R10,000 by the High Court in Makhanda on Friday.

Lungisa handed himself over last week and has been serving time in the North End Prison in Port Elizabeth.

He was convicted on assault charges after hitting the DA's Rayno Kayser with a glass jug during a 2016 council meeting.

Lungisa's appeal to the Supreme Court of Appeal was dismissed, and he's now turning to the Constitutional Court.
