Geoff Makhubo is being treated unfairly: ANC

JOHANNESBURG - The ANC says newly-elected Johannesburg Mayor, Geoff Makhubo is being treated unfairly.

The ANC argues Makhubo cannot be judged over something he hasn't been charged for.

ANC spokesperson Pule Mabe says Makhubo is the mayor and there is nothing barring him from occupying that position.

"All of the leaders of the ANC represent the new dawn. Comrade Geoff has not been charged. It’s really unfair. When it was Mashaba he was given support. Why are we not allowing Geoff to also settle in his position and see how that goes."

Makhubo's election is being overshadowed by questions raised over a R30-million payment allegedly received from Regiments Capital, a firm deeply implicated in state capture.
