ANC's Mabe speaks in support of e-toll user-pay principle

ANC spokesperson, Pule Mabe has criticised the Organisation Undoing Tax Abuse for promoting non-compliance with paying e-tolls.

JOHANNESBURG - ANC spokesperson Pule Mabe has criticised the Organisation Undoing Tax Abuse (Outa) for promoting non-compliance with paying e-tolls.

The civil organisation is fighting tooth and nail to have the system scrapped.

Mabe said the governing party has done more than any other organisation in ensuring that government delivers, and paying for e-tolls is good for democracy.

"The piece we wrote had very little to do with Outa, it had a lot to do with the principle of user-pay and we went on to give an example abut the telecommunications space," he said.

"We are expected to pay for us to be able to use our cellphones and we're broadening the whole discussion to look at paying for basic services.

"The principle of user-pay is beyond e-tolls. It has got to do with what is our own civic duty."
