JOHANNESBURG – Gauteng Premier David Makhura said he would be meeting with Transport Minister Fikile Mbalula on Monday to discuss the future of e-tolls.

In his State of the Province Address, Makhura said Gauteng would be willing to contribute financially to pay off e-toll debt, if it means getting rid of the much-hated system.

The provincial and national governments haven't been on the same page on the issue for some time but Makhura says he won't back down.

“They have no future in Gauteng. It was not elections, it’s something we believe in, our position has not changed but you know the truth that this matter is in the hands of national government,” Makhura said.
