Johannesburg Mayor Herman Mashaba met with Alexandra councillors at his office on Friday.
JOHANNESBURG - Johannesburg mayor Herman Mashaba met with Alexandra councillors at his office on Friday.
Mashaba said the meeting was for both sides to air their concerns.
He once again placed the blame on the national and provincial government for the housing backlog.
"As a city, we execute housing delivery based on the grants we receive from national and provincial government," said Mashaba.
"The reality is that this grant has been declining every year."
The meeting between Mashaba and the councillors is a prelude to the mayor’s visit to the area on Monday where he is expected to address residents.
On Thursday, President Cyril Ramaphosa taunted Mashaba, saying he was afraid of going to the township.
Mashaba has stated the reason he sent representatives to Alexandra instead of going himself is that his diary was fully booked.
