Mawarire remains in custody

HARARE - Harare magistrate, Lucy Mungwari, says Pastor Evan Mawarire has a case to answer to.

The This Flag Movement founder will remain in the Chikurubi Maximum Prison.

He was arrested on Wednesday in Zimbabwe’s capital, Harare, following mass protests after the petrol price was more than doubled last weekend.

Mawarire faces charges of subverting a constitutional government.

The activist called on citizens to embark on a three-day stay away to protest the hikes.

On Monday, Zimbabweans took to the streets of Harare and Bulawayo, demanding government resignations over a failed economy.

More than 600 people were arrested in the demonstrations, with some people already appearing in court.
