JOHANNESBURG - The MTN group has announced that former deputy finance minister Mcebisi Jonas will take over as chairman of its board in December.

Jonas will replace long-serving MTN chair and former CEO Phuthuma Nhleko, who has been chair since 2001.

Nhleko was anticipated to step down this month but is extending his tenure to oversee an orderly transition and the establishment of a new International Advisory Board.

The company also announced that this board will be headed by former president Thabo Mbeki and will commence work in July.
