Mkhize announces new directions in fight against COVID-19

The Mpumalanga government distributed 1,000 of litres of hand sanitiser to rural communities.


JOHANNESBURG - Health Minister, Zweli Mkhize, has gazetted a list of new directions in the fight against COVID-19.

The minister wants a list of all mortuaries capable of handling the bodies of those who die from the coronavirus.

He wants those details within 48-hours.

Mkhize also wants the recruitment process for critical COVID-19 related posts to be fast-tracked and completed within a week of advertising the post.

All retired health workers, community services staff, extended public works programme workers, community-based organisations and NGO's may also be requested to fill positions temporarily.

Mkhize says all waste from quarantine facilities must be isolated and incinerated.

The directions also include an instruction to providers of accommodation to foreign nationals to provide details of those people to the health department within 24 hours.

They will be placed in quarantine at those establishments and their temperature will be taken daily for at least 14 days.
