JOHANNESBURG - Health Minister Zweli Mkhize is rubbishing claims made by the chair of the SA Medical Research Council, Glenda Gray.

Gray, who serves on the Ministerial Advisory Committee on COVID-19, is reported to have said government is not listening to its advice

She is quoted saying lockdown regulations are not based on science but thumb-sucked and that Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital is seeing malnutrition cases for the first time in decades.

Mkhize says Gray has made incorrect, unfounded statements and accuses her of unprofessional conduct.

He points out there has been a decrease in the number of malnutrition cases as compared to the past 4 years.

The minister also says the 'thumb suck' comments undermines the work done to fight the virus.
