JOHANNESBURG - Health Minister Zweli Mkhize says the number of COVID-19 cases is most likely to exceed 200 by Friday.
On Thursday, 34 more cases were confirmed, pushing the national total to 150.
As a result, strict restrictions on public gatherings have come into effect.
Transport Minister Fikile Mbalula also announced a total ban on cruise ships entering South African harbours.
This is a measure to contain the spread of the coronavirus.
Worldwide, 213 thousand people have been infected with coronavirus, more than 8,000 have died, but over 84,000 have recovered.
China has recorded no new locally transmitted cases of COVID-19.
But, it has imported 34 cases, mainly from Spain and Britain.
