Mother of baby rescued from stormwater drain arrested

JOHANNESBURG - The mother of the newborn baby that was rescued after being in dumped in a stormwater drain in Durban has been arrested.

Last week paramedics and rescue services personnel rescued an infant that was dumped in a stormwater drain in Newlands East on after resident Iyron Lovdale heard the baby crying.

KwaZulu Natal police spokesperson Colonel Thembeka Mbhele said a 27-year-old woman was arrested at a local Durban hospital on Monday.

She has been charged with attempted murder and is under police guard at the hospital.
