Motshekga: Schools ready to reopen, waiting on Ramaphosa's address

JOHANNESBURG - Basic Education Minister, Angie Motshekga, says her department is ready for schools to reopen on Monday.

But, she says President Cyril Ramaphosa will give the final go-ahead.

Motshekga was giving an update on school readiness earlier.

"On the opening of schools as a sector we had countless consultations to deliberate on the school opening, depending on the President's confirmation tomorrow when he has his family meeting, we want to report that as a sector we are ready... but again the president will confirm tomorrow," she said.

Schools are scheduled to reopen on Monday.

Pupils have been on a break for three weeks after their two weeks school holiday was extended under level four lockdown regulations.
