Mthembu clarifies delay on lockdown regulations

JOHANNESBURG - Minister in the Presidency Jackson Mthembu has clarified the delayed briefing from the National Coronavirus Command Council on level three regulations.

On Wednesday two major briefings were cancelled to allow for clarity on certain issues.

Mthembu says the council needed to include regulations that President Cyril Ramaphosa announced.

Lockdown regulations: Two major government briefings postponed

Ramaphosa on Tuesday said that places of worship may reopen subject to strict restrictions under level three of the lockdown.

“We also need to craft as agreed by the National Coronavirus Command Council yesterday, to craft different regulations that speaks to areas that are hotspots...” he said.

Mthembu has apologised to South Africans for the delay.

The country will move to level three on 1 June.

The briefing will take place on Thursday at 2pm
