JOHANNESBURG - President Cyril Ramaphosa has axed National Police Commissioner Khehla Sitole.
The commissioner's last day at the SAPS will be 31 March.
The Presidency says Sitole agrees that his departure is in the best interests of the country.
Ramaphosa says a replacement will be announced in due course.
Sitole came under fire for his seeming inaction during the July unrest.
He was accused of being "missing in action" by Police Minister Bheki Cele.
The two have been at odds for some time.
