Nehawu threatens total shutdown at the NHLS

JOHANNESBURG - Nehawu mass action is continuing on Tuesday with some members picketing outside the National Health Laboratory Services.

The union said it will continue to send a clear message that it will not rest while its members are infected with COVID-19.

They expressed concern over the rising rate of deaths due to COVID-19 in frontline workers.

"We want to demonstrate to the employer that they are where they are because of us. And without us, they don't exist," said Nehawu Sandringham branch secretary Judah Mphati.

"We are the ones who are in charge of operations, we are the ones who are ensuring the organisation is running smoothly. In our absence, there is nothing that can be done."

Mphati said that it is unfortunate that the public would be adversely affected by medical workers downing tools.

He stated there are a number of outstanding negotiation points that need to be resolved, including salary increases.
