JOHANNESBURG - "Never forget", is the strong message from Chief Justice Mogoeng Mogoeng for Freedom Day.

South Africans celebrate 25 years of a free and democratic country.

The man who presides over the country's judicial system sat down with eNCA senior anchor Dan Moyane recently.

Mogoeng challenged South Africans to always cherish their hard-won freedom.

“Never forget that it took untold human sacrifice for us to taste what is freedom,” Mogoeng said.

“How can we ever allow ourselves to forget that others who did not even know us, who were not even our relatives had to die for you to have to occupy this position of honour and respect for me to be chief justice?

“How can we ever focus on money, being preferred and affirmed and never be criticised. And chose that instead of principle."

"When so many people are without food, when so many people are living in shacks and when so many people are unemployed and others are in the process of being retrenched..."

“How can we keep quiet about the corruption that we know about and leave people to buy stolen things and some of us are even buying them?” Mogoeng said.
