New coins, stamp issued to mark Freedom Day

JOHANNESBURG - As the country gears up for Freedom Day on Saturday, memorabilia has been released to celebrate the 25th anniversary of democracy.

South Africa held its first democratic elections on the 27th of April in 1994.

The SA Post Office and SA Mint have issued special stamp and coin editions to mark the milestone.

SA Mint Managing Director Tumi Tsehlo the coins are pure gold at 24cts featuring a portrait of the Constitutional Court and the Johannesburg skyline.
