New support for emerging farmers

The agriculture sector wants to push transformation in South Africa, with commercial farmers in the driver’s seat.

PRETORIA - The agriculture sector wants to push transformation in South Africa, with commercial farmers in the driver’s seat.

More commercial farmers mean better economic growth, food security and job creation.

That's why former minister Roelf Meyer is spearheading the Agriculture Development Agency (AGDA).

“We are of the view that there is sufficient land for everyone who wants to be a farmer," said Meyer.

"It’s a question of finding the way in collaborating both through making funding available and also transferring the necessary skills”

Although the agency is privately-funded, government has pledged its full support.

Role players can sign up to be part of the initiative at the conference or on the website.
