JOHANNESBURG - Eskom will be hit with a strike by the National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) during the national elections.

That's according to the head of the Highveld regional branch of the NUM, Bizzah Motubatse.

He says the possible sale of shares and planned job cuts at the embattled state-owned power utility, are the reasons behind the planned strike.

Elections are scheduled for May, although the exact date has not been set.
