NORTH WEST - The North West Education Department says it will investigate allegations of racism at a school in the province..

The school has been in the spotlight after a picture surfaced on social media showing four black children sitting separately from the white children in their class.

North West Education and Sport Development spokesperson Freddy Sepeng said that the department was looking into the allegations.

"As a department we highly condemn racism and it is something that is not acceptable in schools around the province."

Social media users have expressed their frustration and shock at the image, including Gauteng Education MEC Panyaza Lesufi.

eNCA.com did contact the school and was told to wait for a media statement on the matter.

At the time of publication we have not yet received the media statement.
