In China, unlike other countries, its vaccination programme first targeted people in high-risk jobs but is now moving to the elderly over the age of 60.

India started its programme early in January and its COVID-19 cases have soared from just over 11,000 daily to over 50,000 per day.

Its elderly will be eligible for jabs from next month.
