JOHANNESBURG - The Department of Health says it's only been able to renew contracts for seven hospitals.
However, Health Minister Joe Phaahla says the health budget is under severe pressure.

This comes after healthcare workers in Gauteng protested after the department informed them their contracts would not be renewed due to budget cuts.
Phaahla says the provincial health department would now retain staff at the end of March for one year.
Hospitals that will be allowed to retain staff include Charlotte Maxeke, Helen Joseph, Chris Hani Baragwanath and others.
