JOHANNESBURG - Hong Kong's pro-democracy protest on Saturday has been marred by violence.
Police have fired teargas at demonstrators after thousands took to the streets to participate in a largely peaceful rally in the rain.
But a standoff took place between near the local headquarters of the Chinese People's Liberation Army.
Police fired round after round of teargas at protesters, who took cover behind umbrellas.
Some pelted police with bricks and burnt barricades.
Protests in Hong Kong started in June, sparked by a now-suspended bill, which would've allowed Hong Kong residents to be extradited China.
More than 900 people have been arrested so far.
