Police hunt Cape Town church robbery suspects

CAPE TOWN - Western Cape police are searching for suspects involved in armed robberies at churches.

At least two places of worship in Cape Town have been broken into in the last month.

Congregants at Pastor Luvuyo Dwaba’s Higher Cross Baptist Church were robbed at gunpoint at the church premises in Philippi East.

“We were concluding the church service,” said Dwaba.

“I was standing in the front and one lady was walking out of the church. When she opened the door, there were guys outside.

"She immediately closed the door but those guys opened and forced to come inside."

Three armed men forced the congregants to lie down and hand over money and cellphones.

Dwaba said the robbers even tried to kill him.

They took off with a number of cellphones, money and a laptop.
