Gauteng police launch 'safer festive season' initiative

JOHANNESBURG - The SAPS in Gauteng is launching the provincial safer festive season operations.

Police Minister Bheki Cele and Police Commissioner Kehla Sitole are attending the launch.

The SAPS will raid derelict buildings in the CBD, erect roadblocks and conduct sting operations on counterfeit and second-hand goods.

The team of police officers on Friday morning travelled from Hillbrow through Johannesburg, conducting raids.

In Hillbrow, foreign nationals without documentation were detained by the police.

The police travelled on the train and heard the challenges commuters face on public transport, including theft and violence.
