JOHANNESBURG - The electoral commission has postponed implementing the Political Party Funding Act.
Reacting to the IEC's decision, the My Vote Counts campaign is urging parties to disclose their funders voluntarily.
It said this would show that the political system is transparent and accountable.
A researcher from My Vote Counts, Zahira Grimwood said, “we are relying on journalism and whistleblowers to come out and expose this kind of information but political parties themselves need to be accountable.”
Grimwood said the backers of political parties should be revealed so voters could make a truly informed position when they go to the polls.
