The Public Protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane has served Public Enterprises Minister Pravin Gordhan with a subpoena in connection with a high-risk investigative unit at SARS.
JOHANNESBURG - The Public Protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane served Public Enterprises Minister Pravin Gordhan with a second subpoena on Thursday.
The subpoena is in connection with a high-risk investigative unit, known as the 'rogue unit', at SARS to be answered by 23 April.
The investigative unit has been the subject of three investigations by the Public Protector, the Hawks and KPMG.
The officials, including former SARS head Gordhan, insist the unit was set up lawfully and committed no wrongs.
KMPG, which compiled the original report into the unit, since admitted its findings were flawed and withdrew it.
The lawyer representing the minister, Tebogo Malatji said, "at this point in time, the minister should not be facing a process of this nature."
