JOHANNESBURG - The AbaThembu King could soon be a free man.
That’s if the President agrees to pardon him.
President Cyril Ramphosa has received a recommendation from Justice Minister Michael Masutha to pardon King Buyelekhaya Dalindyebo.
He will now study the recommendation before communicating his decision to the King.
The request comes after three rulers in the Eastern Cape threatened Ramaphosa to release the AbaThembu King or lose critical votes in next month’s elections.
Dalinyebo is serving a 12-year prison sentence for culpable homicide, assault, arson and kidnapping of his subjects in 1995 and 1996.
