JOHANNESBURG - The security industry regulator PSIRA has suspended the services of the Red Ants over misconduct allegations.

The organisation says it’s received numerous complaints from the public.

Some of the complaints are linked to recent evictions in Alexandra and Ramaphosa informal settlement in Johannesburg.

The unit said it was appointed by the City of Johannesburg following a September 2016 court order.

The Red Ants demolished about 80 illegal shacks in Alexandra in May.

The unit has further denied claims that the Red Ants have been blacklisted from operating in the City of Johannesburg.

Officials will now carry out an investigation.
