Public Protector standoff | Speaker denies malicious intent

National Assembly Speaker Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula has denied claims by Public Protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane that she colluded with the President to get her suspended. In arguments submitted to the High Court, the speaker says delaying impeachment proceedings will not be in the public interest. eNCA's Lindsay Dentlinger reports.

CAPE TOWN - National Assembly Speaker Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula has denied claims by Public Protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane that she colluded with President Cyril Ramaphosa to orchestrate her suspension.

In arguments submitted to the High Court in Western Cape, the speaker says to further delay impeachment proceedings will be more harmful to the public interest, than to Mkhwebane herself.

Meanwhile, the UDM and ATM have come out to bat for Mkhwebane.

They’ve told the court that they support stopping Parliament from continuing with impeachment proceedings against her.
