JOHANNESBURG - Irregular expenditure of tens of billions of rand continues to plague a public service, largely lacking accountability and rife with poor decision-making.

Auditor General Kimi Makwetu has painted a dire picture in latest audit report.

A whopping R80-billion in irregular expenditure has been incurred over the past financial year.

National and Provincial audit outcomes show an overall decline for the 2017/2018 financial year. 

Where wrongdoing is found, leadership is slow to act, or there is a total disregard for recommendations made by the AG.

eNCA has been told there's a lack of accountability and few consequences for those in the public service who are flouting the law.
