Ramaphosa backtracks on Bosasa

CAPE TOWN - President Cyril Ramaphosa has backtracked on a response he gave before the National Assembly earlier this month.

The DA asked about him about a R500,000 payment made from Bosasa CEO Gavin Watson, allegedly for the benefit of his son, Andile.

Ramaphosa now says the amount was actually a donation towards his campaign for the ANC Presidency.

Ramaphosa submitted a letter to the parliamentary speaker saying he "inadvertently provided incorrect information" during his answer to a question from DA leader Mmusi Maimane.

The president initially stated the money was paid for consultancy services provided by Andile Ramaphosa to controversial company Bosasa, according to the information he had at the time.

He corrected the information to state it was paid into a trust account for use in his campaign for the leadership of the African National Congress.
