Ramaphosa calls for probe into campaign funds

JOHANNESBURG - The ANC says President Cyril Ramaphosa's called for an investigation into donations made to his party presidential campaign.

It also said the president will pay back donations made without his knowledge.

It comes after Ramaphosa backtracked on his Parliamentary reply regarding a R500,000 payment into his son’s account by the controversial company Bosasa.

The president had told MPs that it was for consultancy services.

ANC spokesperson Pule Mabe said “he took the most courageous step to write to the Speaker.”

“The best [thing] to do is to make sure that such funds which might have come up without his knowledge, the best thing to is to return them for their original depositors and an investigation to look into those activities.”
