Joburg mayor shouldn't fear people: Ramaphosa

ANC President Cyril Ramaphosa has promised to build houses for Alexandra residents.

JOHANNESBURG - ANC president Cyril Ramaphosa has told Alexandra residents that their troubles should have been dealt with by the City of Johannesburg.

Ramaphosa says he's had to step in after mayor Herman Mashaba failed to respond quickly to their concerns.

He addressed residents on Thursday.

Ramaphosa was accompanied by a number of ministers.

"Local government is supposed to fix all these things but your mayor is scared to come here," Ramaphosa told the crowd.

"A mayor should not fear his people. He should come and hear the views of the community."

Ramaphosa also promised to build houses for Alexandra residents.

"I want you to know that we are still going to build houses in Alexandra.

"We are going to build houses so that our people can have decent houses. We are going to do it," he said.

ANC president Cyril Ramaphosa has addressed crowds in Alexandra following service delivery protests in the area.
