PRETORIA - President Cyril Ramaphosa says quality healthcare is about social justice and should be implemented at all costs.
Ramaphosa was speaking at a consultative meeting on the National Health Insurance (NHI) scheme in Pretoria.
The meeting was attended by academia, health activists, trade unions, NGOs and health officials.
Interactions with officials saw concerns and suggestions being raised about the upcoming health overhaul.
Governance was a sticking point for some, who called on more efforts to root out corruption in the health sector.
Stakeholders also quizzed the president about funding of the NHI.
Ramaphosa told attendees that despite the economy being in dire straits, there will be money invested in the health plan.
The president said, “we envisage a transformed health system that will not just have better health outcomes but one that will also save money for individuals households and the country as a whole..."
