JOHANNESBURG - President Cyril Ramaphosa accompanied Gauteng premier David Makhura on a site visit to COVID-19 facilities in Gauteng.
The president began his visit in Nasrec where the officials did a walkabout of quarantine facilities.
The premier explained the province's readiness for impending COVID-19 patients.
Makhura said he and the provincial departments are working closely with the NICD, national and private laboratories to get accurate, timely statistics.
The premier said the province's administration is given access to numbers of infected people and their locations before they are released nationally in order to adequately respond to the situation as it develops.
The premier emphasised the role of contact tracing, saying it is the most powerful weapon in fighting against the spread of infection of the virus.
Makhura said the relevant departments would be working constantly with experts to track and respond appropriately to the national regulations.
